The EPGY Summer Institutes Middle School Program Expository Writing course is ideal for motivated and verbally talented students with an interest in non-fiction writing. This course helps students develop their writing skills through the study of two types of essays: personal essays and persuasive essays. Working closely with instructors and in small groups, students will read and discuss selected exemplary essays written by prominent authors, and they will review and critique essays written by students in the class. Emphasis will be placed on the writing process: writing, reviewing, rewriting. The course will help students develop their ability to write clearly and forcefully. This writing-intensive course is intended for talented and motivated middle-school students who are already proficient writers and who are serious about developing their writing abilities.
