At the crossroads between Europe and Asia, Istanbul is a
dynamic blend of old world mystique and cosmopolitan
flare. Designed to take advantage of the very best that
Istanbul has to offer, EPGY is offering a new three-week
residential program in Istanbul during the summer of 2008.
Students will be residing on the beautiful campus of
Boğaziçi University in north Istanbul. Located on the
Bosphorus River, the Boğaziçi campus offers students
the Ucaksavar Sport complex (complete with a fitness center
and track), tennis courts, an outdoor swimming pool, and
library resource center.
As with the program on the Stanford campus, students are
selected for and will participate in intensive study of a
single course. The EPGY Summer Institutes Istanbul courses
include International Relations, Creative Writing and
Introduction to Number Theory. Course descriptions for these
courses can be viewed on the Istanbul course page.
Additionally, all students will participate in a
supplemental course on Byzantine Constantinople history and
culture. This course, taught by a Boğaziçi University
professor, will include weekday field trips to important
Byzantine sites such as Aya Sophia, the Basilika Cistern, the
Hippodrome, Mosaic Museum and the Church of St. Savior in
Chora.
