Session 1: June 22 - July 11

Session 2: July 14 - August 2

Building on the success of the 2007 Beijing Summer Institute, EPGY is offering two, three-week residential programs in Beijing during the summer of 2008. As with the program that takes place at Stanford, students participate in intensive study in a single course. The summer 2008 courses include Chinese Philosophy, Creative Writing, Globalization and the New Economic Order, and International Relations.  Course descriptions for these courses can be viewed on the Beijing course page.

In addition to their main academic course, students will receive supplemental instruction in Chinese history and culture.  The supplemental academic program will include guest lectures, field trips to major sites in and around Beijing, activities and projects.  Sites visited will include the Great Wall of China, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, Tiananmen Square, and the Summer Palace. Activities and projects may include introductions to Tai Chi and other Chinese martial arts, Chinese cooking and cuisine, Chinese brush painting, Chinese calligraphy, and Chinese language. Students will also take excursions to Beijing shops and market places and see some of the Olympic facilities.
