Title I Schools and EPGY

Since 1994, it has been possible for schools to use Title I funds for students of high ability. Many Title I schools are now using the EPGY courses to address the needs of their best students.

EPGY courses allow Title I schools to:

  • Enhance student self-esteem - recognize and reward students who do well and to provide them with confidence to meet new challenges.

  • Provide equality of educational opportunity - EPGY courses ensures that high-ability students at all schools have access to the same courses and same levels of instructional expertise.

  • Retain gifted students - Title I programs will be more successful if schools retain their best students and are able to foster an atmosphere of excellence.

  • Prepare students for high school and beyond - By encouraging students to challenge themselves, schools will be creating an environment in which students can prepare to succeed in higher education.
