Eligibility and enrollment

Who is eligible to enroll in School Open Enrollment?
All students in participating schools are eligible to enroll.  The list of participating schools can be seen in the drop down menu on the Sign up page.

What if my school is not on the list of schools participating in School Open Enrollment?
If you wish to have your school considered for inclusion in the School Open Enrollment program, you will need to identify at least 8 students who would like to participate as well as an adult to serve as the School Support Associate (SSA). Once you have done so, please submit a School Open Enrollment Interest Form. Within a week of receipt of the interest form, the SSA will be contacted with all necessary registration information.

The following flier may be downloaded for distribution to potentially interested families. Download flier. Click here for Spanish version.

What if I do not attend a brick-and-mortar school?
The School Open Enrollment program is available to any group of at least 8 students who are supported by an adult volunteer who will serve as the School Support Associate (SSA).  In order for the SSA to effectively support the group, all members of the group must reside within reasonable geographic proximity.  Once you have identified at least 8 interested students and an adult to serve as the SSA, please submit a School Open Enrollment Interest Form.

What is your refund policy?
Requests for refunds must be received in writing within 21 days of enrollment. No refunds will be issued thereafter. The $25 activation fee is non-refundable.

Courses

Once students are registered, when can they begin the courses?
The registration process is fully automated, allowing you to sign up and pay within minutes. Your student will have access to the courses once payment has been verified.

Upon completing registration you will receive an email with your student id number and password. To access your courses, please log in on the School Open Enrollment Home page.

What course options do I have?
By registering in Open Enrollment, you have access to the K-7 Mathematics, the Language Arts and Writing, and the Beginning Algebra courses. You can enroll in these courses for an enrollment period of either 10 months or 5 months. For a description of the courses, please visit the Courses page

What is the difference between Beginning Algebra and Honors Beginning Algebra?
The Honors Beginning Algebra course is accelerated in pace and content.  It is available only through EPGY’s traditional individual program.

Support

What support resources are available to students and parents?
Parents provide course content support for students.  For technical support, contact your School Support Associate (SSA), who is trained by EPGY staff in the use of the course software.  Your SSA’s contact information is displayed on the student log-in page. When contacting the SSA please be sure to include: a detailed description of the anomaly and what steps you have taken to rectify it, a screen shot of the error, and your student ID number.

In addition, a range self-support tools are available for enrolled students. To access them, please log in above and follow the Support link from the student page.

Other options at EPGY

How does the School Open Enrollment program differ from the traditional EPGY individual courses?
Most significantly, in order for students to enroll in traditional EPGY courses, they must undergo an application process.  Enrollment in the School Open Enrollment program does not require an application, only registration.

Second, in order to enroll in the School Open Enrollment program, a student must attend a participating school or be part of an approved learning group (see FAQ #3 under Eligibiilty and enrollment).

The final difference is in the level of support received. Students in the traditional EPGY program receive a comprehensive set of support services from EPGY instructors, as well as an official transcript from Stanford.  Students in the School Open Enrollment program work primarily with their parents, who in turn receive support from the School Support Associate.

How can I apply for the individual EPGY program?
Please refer to this application. Note the distinctions from the School Open Enrollment program as explained in the preceding question.

What is the difference between the School Open Enrollment Program and the EPGY Schools Program?
In the EPGY Schools Program, a school or school district systematically implements the EPGY program, which is used in schools and is supported by teachers.  The School Open Enrollment program allows a group of students at a school where EPGY is not officially and systematically in place to benefit from EPGY courses by forming a learning community of at least 8 students, which is led by a School Support Associate (SSA).

Does my school’s participation in the School Open Enrollment Program mean my school district endorses the EPGY courses?
No.  The participation of an individually-organized group at a certain school in the School Open Enrollment Program does not imply any type of endorsement or support of EPGY courses by the school’s administration or school district.

How can I get my school officially to implement EPGY?
Each school is different. As a first step you can familiarize the administrators, teachers, tech staff, and parents at your school with EPGY. Offer to show them how the program works and talk about the benefits you have found using EPGY with your student. The staff at EPGY is available to speak about EPGY at an assembly or meeting at your school. If your school is interested in a school-wide EPGY site-license, please contact us.
