Student Clubs
3D Modeling Club
Using a free software program called Blender, the members of this club spend their time APP sharing and creating various 3D objects. We teach new members very quickly how to use the program. This year we are planning to make gaming designs and possibly to participate in competitions.
Art and Artisans Club
Asia Club
Asia Club exists as an affiliate group to promote communication and to provide information, support, and a sense of community to EPGY OHS students located in or interested in Asia. We do not hold formal meetings, but encourage members to visit each other as much aspossible in the region.
Christian Fellowship Club
Similarly to Christian Fellowship clubs at other school and universities, this club provides an opportunity for Christians at OHS (and any students interested in the Christian faith) to socialize and have a Bible study. Everyone is welcome, regardless of religion.
Classic Films Club
The best excuse to watch TV ever! The members of this club will watch and discuss some of the most famous movies of all time, such as “Casablanca” and “Gone With the Wind,” among others. Plus, it’s a great way to get rid of school stress.
Cross Cultural Club
Cross Cultural Club is a place where OHSers from different cultures can come together and share cultural diversity and perspectives, and by doing so, increase cultural sensitivity and awareness in the school. Cultural diversity is shared through several means: watching movies and the discussing cultural perspectives based on them; exploring and discussing dance, art, music, traditions, and other aspects of various cultures, possibly from the movies; and going beyond the OHS to extend to the rest of the world through online forums, international pen pals, and any other means that the members come up with. In short, it is a multicultural portal.
Culinary Club
We engage in Iron-Chef competitions, recipe-sharing, and cooking demonstrations. This year we will be preparing food for graduation!
Debate Club
The Debate Club is a forum for practicing the art of debate. Generally, in the Debate Club we plan to engage in any kind of debate- parliamentary, Lincoln-Douglas, congressional, anything- that the members choose to indulge in. Topics range from subjects in philosophy, politics, and the arts to "lighter" topics.Among the things we hope to do are to establish some intra-school debate matches and speech tournaments. We would like to encourage the Debate Club members to actively participate in tournaments outside of the OHS. Hopefully, out of this Debate Club we may one day be able to develop a debate team.
Engineering Club
For the last two years, the EPGY OHS Engineering Club has competed in the Junior Engineering Technical Society’s National Engineering Design Challenge. This is a competition in which we design an assistive technology for a person with some sort of disability. For the past two years, we have made the Semi-Final round. If you have any skills in writing, engineering, design, brainstorming, CADCAM, Audio/Video, programming, computers, or think this sounds totally awesome, we need you!
Extreme Communicators
We provide an exhibition space for digital creations. We accept the work of documentarians, artists, programmers, and journalists.
History and Art of Law
In this club members learn about the history and practice of law by engaging in mock trials. Members assume the roles of prosecuting and defending lawyers, plaintiffs, defendants, judges, and jury members as they debate cases.
Homeschool Club
This club provides a forum for the many homeschooled students at OHS to share their experiences. From an interesting vacation over the summer to a fun event they did during the day, students discuss just about anything in this social club.
Indian Students Association (ISA)
The ISA is a forum that promotes the discussion and education of India through various avenues. We will explore culture through film, song, and cuisine. We strive to keep ourselves informed and will discuss the various economic and political issues that currently affect India as a global nation. We also plan to develop initiatives to aid the people of India through a partnership with the service club.
Literary Journal
The Lit Journal aims to create a community that savors literature and poetry. Though the review, analysis, and critique of poetry and short stories dominate weekly Journal meetings, we have been known to enjoy a choice painting or photograph on occasion. If this kind of activity interests you, please join us!
Math Club
In our weekly meetings, we discuss interesting math-related topics, prepare for competitions outside of school, and hopefully again hold the Purple Comet Math Competition, one of the few excellent online math competitions, and one in which we participated last year.
Music Club
This is a popular club suitable for any student with or without musical experience, willing to share or learn about music and musicality. Music club members explore all sorts of music, not limited to any single performer, instrument, or genre, and share opinions, preferences, and knowledge regarding any music brought to club meetings. All you need to participate in this club is the ability to listen!
OHS MONEY club
Anyone interested in coin collection, coin history, or just history in general would love this club. Whether they are comparing their own coin collections or discussing the possibility of profit from coin auctions (finding that one lucky coin), the members always have something interesting to talk about.
Politics Club
We are a group of OHS students who share with each other our interest in world affairs, current events, and the disputes which inform the public discourse of our time.
Review of Books Club
This OHS publication is patterned after the Yale, Claremont, and New York Times Review of Books. Throughout the year, students can submit reviews of their most or least favorite books. The Review is released on an annual basis. It is a great way to recommend a book or find a book to read.
SAT Prep Club
Students help each other prepare for the SAT with practice problems and tests.
Science Club
Have you ever wondered what came first, the proton or the neutron? What effect coal-to-liquid methods will have on Global Warming? Are you excited to view the latest images from NASA’s Dawn mission? Then join us!
Student Newspaper
The “!” reports on goings-on around school, such as student government, clubs, and elections. We also publish musings and pictures about student life, both inside and out of the Centra frame (the virtual classroom). And, as ever, we provide a means to voice the variegated opinions held by our student body. To this end, we gladly accept contributions, both text and photography, from all students! |
